Roanoke Adopts Complete Streets, Greenways and Bikeways Plans, Bicycle Friendly Community Application

On March 17, 2008, the Roanoke City Council adopted their new regional Greenways and Bikeways plans, a Complete Streets policy, and plans to apply for a Bicycle Friendly Community Award from the League of American Bicyclists.

Italian Cycling Pro ‘Pedals’ Cycling in Schools

Visiting Italian ex-pro cyclist Fred Morini is touring Wytheville area schools to get kids turned on to cycling. He hopes to start after school cycling programs to get kids (and adults) involved in the sport, for fun, exercise, and transportation.

Google Maps “Bike There” Petition

There’s a petition going around to get Google to add a “bike there” option to the “directions” in Google Maps, similar to the “take public transit” option available for a few places already. The Google Maps Bike There website has a link to sign the petition, plus some other neat stuff.

[ May 16, 2008 to May 18, 2008. ] Enjoy riding quiet, flat back roads through the scenic salt marsh country of Mathews County. 5 different length organized rides Saturday. Explore on Sunday by bike, or bring a kayak or canoe for a pedal and paddle weekend. A great way to ease back onto the bike for the season.
