Dear Virginia Cyclist:

Member support and engagement is key to the success of the Virginia Bicycling Federation (VBF) as a non-profit advocacy and education organization working for a more bicycling-friendly Virginia for riders of all ages, abilities, and preferences.

As a result of our collective efforts, the League of American Bicyclists currently ranks Virginia as our nation’s 7th most “Bicycle Friendly State” (and #1 out of 13 southeastern U.S. states).

As VBF prepares for an exciting year of new opportunities and successes in 2024, we invite you to join (or rejoin) VBF with our latest discounted membership offer:  Now through December 31, receive a 50% discount on your first year of VBF membership at any membership category.  VBF welcomes support from individuals, families, businesses, sponsors, patrons, and all bicycling-related organizations.

VBF’s present focus includes:

  • Achieving legislative progress during the Virginia General Assembly’s 60-day 2024 legislative session (January 10-March 9), by instigating bills for better bicycling laws, actively supporting other traffic-safety legislation, and winning increased state funding for bikeways, trails, and road-safety retrofits.
  • Cooperating with the new State Trails Office, within the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), to influence the development of Virginia’s first Statewide Trails Plan and State Trails Information Clearinghouse in 2024, advancing a connected statewide network of long-distance multiuse trails.
  • Promoting improvements in the planned update of VDOT’s 2011 State Bicycle Policy Plan.
  • Collaborating with the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles to better educate new and existing motorists on how to safely share the road with people riding bicycles.
  • Leading Virginia’s delegation at the National Bike Summit, March 19-21 in Washington DC, by, once again, arranging and attending face-to-face meetings on Capitol Hill to discuss federal bike-related legislation and appropriations and to foster on-going relationships with key congressional staff.

As a VBF member, you will:

  • Receive notices, updates, and action alerts on pending legislation, policy development, and other opportunities being championed or offered by VBF and/or our many statewide, regional, or local partners.
  • Be invited to participate in the annual election of the VBF Board of Directors and to serve on the VBF Board and its active committees.
  • Contribute financially to the success of our ongoing advocacy and outreach initiatives that are achieving a more bicycling-friendly Virginia for everyone.

Because the depth and diversity of VBF’s grassroots support is so critical to the success of our mission, we are offering a special 50% discount through the end of 2023 on the first year of any category of VBF membership.
